Michael Vick Dogfighting

Michael Vick is a man loved not only in Atlanta, but also here in Virginia (where I'm from). So it pains me to see a true football hero from Virginia Tech in a situation like this. If the charges against him are true believe me I think he should get a lot more than six years.I also think the NFL should ban him for LIFE! Being a dog lover myself and having 3 of my own I cant possibly imagine how any person could watch or participate in a dog fight. If you have ever seen one it is one of the most brutal and terrible things you could ever witness. The NFL should recognize that if Vick is convicted allowing him to play when his sentence is up (which will probably be immediate with 6 years suspended and time served) will only serve to hurt the league with protests from PETA and other animal rights groups. I just cant believe the man I grew up admiring could do such a thing. I'm the biggest VT and Michael Vick fan around so i hope this is so huge lie and he is in no way involved in this but the evidence points the other way. Maybe it will turn out like the duke lacrosse case, but if it doesn't I wish he could spend 10 to 15 years in a dark cell by himself to reexamine his life

Top Ten Spyware and Adware Threats Identified

On December 8, 2004 Webroot, an award winning anti-spyware solution provider, released a press release identifying the ten most significant emerging spyware and adware threats. Most of these you probably haven’t heard of and a few may surprise you.
It is estimated that 9 out of 10 computers are infected with spyware, also known as, adware, scumware, malware and many others.
Here’s the top 10.
• PurtyScan – popup ads that trick users into installing by claiming to find and delete pornographic images.
• n-CASE - adware program that delivers targeted popup adds. This program is usually bundled with freeware.
• Gator - adware program that displays banner ads based on your Web surfing habits. This program is usually bundled with the Kazaa file-sharing program, as well as other free software programs.
• CoolWebSearch – hijacks home page, Internet Explorer settings, and Web searches.
• Transponder - monitors sites visited and any data entered into online forms, and then delivers targeted ads.
• ISTbar/AUpdate – spyware posing as a toolbar. Has been reported to display porn, pop-ups, and to hijack homepage and Internet searches.
• KeenValue – an adware program that collects personal information and delivers advertisements.
• Internet Optimizer – hijacks error pages and redirects them to its own site.
• Perfect Keylogger – records all keystrokes (including personal information, passwords, etc), clicks and web sites visited.
• TIBS Dialer – hijacks phone modem and redirects to pornography pay by the minute phone sites.
The following precautions are recommended in the fight against spyware: install Microsoft security patches, avoid downloading and using freeware; and disable ActiveX downloads in Internet Explorer. In addition, install at least one anti-spyware program, some experts actually recommend that you have two installed. For starters you can download one of the free spyware removal programs such as Spybot Search & Destroy or Ad-aware. There are also a few good anti-spyware programs on the market that proactively protect your computer (alert you before the spyware is installed). When purchasing an anti-spyware program you need to be sure it is from a reputable company as many of the anti-spyware programs available actually place spyware on your computer. They do this by offering a free scan, which places the spyware on your computer as it is scanning. Then they entice you to purchase the product to remove the spyware.
In conclusion, if you take a few precautions and install anti-spyware software on your system you should be well protected in the fight against spyware.

Guitar Hero III Songs Released by Jason Martin

Fans of Guitar Hero should be impressed. It looks like Guitar Hero III will be the best one yet. The song list has started to be leaked and it's very good so far. We now know of 13 songs for the upcoming release.
New Guitar Hero Song List
1. Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones2. Cherub Rock by Smashing Pumpkins3. Sabotage by Beastie Boys4. The Metal by Tenacious D5. My Name is Jonas by Weezer6. Knights of Cydonia by Muse7. Rock and Roll All Nite by Kiss8. School's Out by alice Cooper9. Slow Ride by Fog Hat10. Cult of Personality by Living Colour11. Barracuda by Heart12. Evenflow by Pearl Jam13. Lay Down by Priestess
This list is pretty good for starters. I'm hoping that they are not releasing their best songs now and then all the rest is filler material.
A couple songs that would make Guitar Hero III much better—ala my personal wish list.
1. Master of Puppets by Metallica2. Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin3. Paradise City by Guns N Roses4. Beth by Kiss
There are some others, but that would make me happy.
Guitar Hero 80s is coming out in July. It will be for the PS2 only—sorry Xbox 360 owners. It will have 30 new songs. All of the songs are yet to be known but a couple that will be fun are:
1. Metal Health by Quiet Riot2. Nothin' But a Good Time by Poison3. Round and Round by Ratt4. 18 and Life by Skid Row5. We Got the Beat by The Go-Go's
Guitar Hero III is slated for release later this year. As of this writing, the game's developers were in active talks to get songs from Metallica, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. Could Stairway to Heaven of Master of Puppets be on the horizon? Let's hope.

Metallica's Heavy Metal Influence Continues by Christina Dee

Metallica was formed in October 1981 in Los Angeles by drummer Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield (vocals and guitarist) after placing classified ads in The Recycler.
The two original members recruited Ron McGovney as bassist but were unable to find a full-time lead guitarist, which resulted in a number of guitarists, like Brad Parker, Jeff Warner and Lloyd Grant.
Metallica's music was greatly influenced by British metal bands like Judas Priest, Motorhead, Black Sabbath and Saxon, as well as various punk bands like The Ramones, Discharge and The Misfits.
The Early Years
When Ulrich became desperate to find a full-time lead guitarist for Metallica, he posted another ad in a local California newspaper. Dave Mustaine responded and agreed to audition. However, Hetfield and Ulrich were so impressed with Mustaine's warm-up, they asked him to join the band.
Around 1982 Metallica recorded demos like "Ron's Garage" and "Hit the Lights." In the same year, Metallica released a full demo entitled "No Life ‘Til Leather," which became successful in the underground scene.
At the end of 1982, Ron McGovney left Metallica, so the band searched for another bassist and saw Cliff Burton play live with a band known as Trauma. Burton agreed to join the band only if they relocated to his hometown of San Francisco. When the band moved, they signed with Megaforce Records and replaced Dave Mustaine with Kirk Hammett from Exodus.
In 1983 Metallica recorded its first album, entitled "Kill ‘Em All," in Rochester, New York. Although the album did not achieve instant success, it did gain them exposure and a growing number of fans in the underground scene.
Metallica's Worldwide Success
After a year Metallica released a major hit song "Ride the Lightning," which featured a more introspective, slower and newer style. After its release, major labels wanted Metallica. However, the band chose Elektra and released "Master of Puppets" in 1986. Although Metallica failed to release any single for the 1986 album, it was still regarded as the album that gave way to their success breakthrough.
When Cliff Burton was killed by a freak accident in 1986, Metallica discontinued playing for a while until they decided that Burton would have wanted them to continue their music. A few weeks after Burton's funeral, Metallica finally hired Jason Newsted.
"...And Justice for All" was the first album in which Newsted played bass. With much controversy, it was released in 1988. The following year, Metallica's 1988 album was nominated for its first Grammy. Unfortunately, Jethro Tull's "Crest of a Knave" won the award.
Three years later, the band won a Grammy for "Enter Sandman" from Metallica's 1991 self-titled album, also known as "The Black Album." It instantly became a hit and became the band's most popular song to date.
When Metallica entered the mainstream in 1991, they sold over 10 million albums in U.S. alone. It was in 1996 that Metallica switched to alternative rock for their "Load" album. Unfortunately, many fans were discouraged of the sudden change in music style.
In 1992's "Reload," Metallica produced a major comeback and their worldwide fans hailed their return. Their success continued throughout the end of 1990s. However, in 2001, Jason Newsted left the band for personal reasons while James Hetfield stayed in rehab for a couple of months.
In 2002, Lars Ulrich, the now-sober James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and their long-time producer Bob Rock, who replaced Newsted, continued in creating Metallica's eleventh album, entitled "St. Anger," which produced a more mature, honest and heavy sound that fans worldwide continue to love.

How To Sound Like David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) by Andy Ng

David Gilmour, like his Pink Floyd predecessor Syd Barrett, played a Telecaster initially, but he soon became one of the first British rock guitar legends to favor the Fender Stratocaster and to create a signature sound with the instrument. His parents bought the Tele for David’s 21st birthday, and he played it for a year (including on the Saucerful of Secrets record) until it was lost by an airline.
Upon officially joining Pink Floyd, Gilmour purchased a custom Stratocaster (the first of many) at a Cambridge music store. During the early Pink Floyd years, Gilmour played a Strat almost exclusively, taking full advantage of its wide tonal palette and vibrato bar in his style. He used a Lewis 24-fret electric guitar on rare occasions for its extended range, as in the solo of “Money,” and continued to employ a Tele sporadically in the repertory. Gilmour strung his electric guitars with Gibson Sonomatic strings made of a customized light-top (using the standard E and B for the B and G) and heavy-bottom set gauged .010, .012, .016, .028, .038, and .050. He used a Herco heavy-gauge pick.
David Gilmour’s earliest amp setup with Pink Floyd consisted of a Selmer 50-watt head with a 4×12 speaker cabinet. By 1970, he found his signature sound with a stack made of Hiwatt 100-watt heads with WEM 4×12 cabinets. The Hiwatt/WEM combination can be heard conspicuously on Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon. In the studio, he sometimes added a Fender Twin Reverb combo amp with two 12-inch speakers to his lineup for certain parts, as on Dark Side of the Moon.
David Gilmour’s early Floyd effects consisted of a Binson Echorec tape delay (like Barrett, he used this device from his first days with the band), a Dallas-Arbiter Fuzzface fuzz box, Uni-Vibe pedal, Vox wah-wah pedal, a DeArmond volume pedal, and Leslie and Yamaha RA-200 rotating speaker cabinets. The latter were routed through the output sections of Hiwatt heads and then to WEM 4×12 cabinets. In 1972, his effects boxes were mounted in a custom cabinet, and his array of processors grew to include a second Binson Echorec and a second Fuzzface, an MXR Phase 90, a Crybaby wah-wah, an Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress flanger, Big Muff fuzz, an Orange treble and bass booster, and a custom-built tone pedal.
Additionally, Gilmour used studio effects like ADT (Automatic Double Tracking, a favorite studio processor first developed at Abbey Road Studios for the Beatles), Kepex for tremolo, various tape effects, studio echo chambers, and backwards guitar. He also employed an EMS Synthi Hi-Fi guitar synthesizer (heard on “Time” on Dark Side of the Moon), and usually played a lap steel or Fender twin neck pedal steel guitar for slide parts. He used various acoustic guitars on early Floyd tracks, later settling on Martin D-18 and D-35 models in the 1970s, and, depending on the song, alternated between fingerpicking and playing with a plectrum.
Andy Ng is a self taught guitar enthusiast. He have played guitar for the last 5 yrs and still going strong! He is also a leading expert on the art of building homemade effect pedals. Pick up tips, techniques and just plain guitar talk at his blog! http://www.guitareffectssecrets.andy-ng.com/
